How it works and what is needed for installation
Operating principle
The Exinda 12kW R290 heat pump absorbs thermal energy from outdoor air through a large-surface evaporator, even at temperatures well below zero. The DC inverter compressor raises the temperature of the R290 refrigerant, which then transfers heat to water through a plate heat exchanger inside the monoblock unit. The heated water circulates through the building's hydronic system (underfloor loops, radiators or fan coils). In cooling mode, the cycle reverses, extracting heat from the water and rejecting it to outdoor air. All refrigerant piping is factory-sealed inside the outdoor unit, so the installer works only with water connections, not refrigerant lines.
What is needed on site
- Outdoor unit placement: minimum 80 × 60 cm clear area, with at least 30 cm clearance behind, to the sides and above. Not inside an enclosed niche.
- Electrical installation: 230 V single-phase, dedicated circuit, circuit breaker 20 A. No three-phase supply required.
- Hydraulic connection: two pipes (flow/return) DN25 or Cu22, insulated, running to the indoor distribution point.
- Condensate drainage: gravity drain or condensate pump, with freeze protection in cold-exposed locations.
- DHW tank (if installed): separate indoor space, minimum 100 L. Units up to 500 L compatible.
- Communication: Ethernet or WiFi to the indoor controller module.
Compatible heating systems
The 12 kW unit's maximum flow temperature of 75 °C means it can serve even older high-temperature radiator systems, though seasonal efficiency decreases at higher flow temperatures. How large a house can a 12 kW heat pump handle?
The 12 kW unit is sized for larger family homes of 140 to 180 m² with average insulation. A well-insulated newer home of up to 200 m² with underfloor heating may also fit. Can I connect it to existing radiators in a house built 25 years ago?
The unit produces flow water up to 75 °C, which covers most radiator systems including older ones designed for higher temperatures. At flow temperatures above 55 °C, seasonal efficiency decreases (SCOP drops from 4.65 at 35 °C to 3.6 at 55 °C), but the system functions. Is R290 propane safe as a refrigerant in a home?
The R290 charge in this unit is 0,8 kg, factory-sealed inside the outdoor monoblock. The refrigerant never enters the house. This charge quantity is well within safety standards for outdoor residential equipment, and the unit carries CE, ErP and F-gas certification. R290 is classified as a natural refrigerant and is already used in millions of household refrigerators worldwide.
What is the difference between this 12 kW model and the 9 kW or 15 kW?
The 9 kW covers homes of 100 to 130 m², the 12 kW fits 140 to 180 m², and the 15 kW handles 180 to 230 m². All use R290 refrigerant and single-phase 230 V supply. Do I need three-phase power for this model?
No. The 12 kW unit operates on standard 230 V single-phase supply with a dedicated circuit and a 20 A breaker. Nominal power draw is 2.55 kW (16 A). This is standard residential electrical supply in Serbia.
What will my electricity bill be for heating a 160 m² house?
That depends on electricity tariff, insulation level, climate zone and heating habits. The 12 kW unit's SCOP of 4.65 at 35 °C means it delivers roughly 4.65 kWh of heat for every 1 kWh of electricity. Does it work at -20 °C? Do I need a backup heat source?
EXINDA certifies operation down to -25 °C. At -7 °C, the unit still delivers 8.5 kW (71 % of nominal). At -20 °C, it continues to operate at further reduced capacity. For most Serbian locations, the 12 kW unit covers heating demand independently. How noisy is it? How far from a bedroom window should it be installed?
Sound power is 54 dB(A) at nominal load. At 5 metres distance, sound pressure drops to 36 dB(A). Night mode reduces this to 32 dB(A), comparable to a whisper.
